# Terms for the library materials

Adopted by the copyright holder, Beau Gunderson, on 2026-10-04. These terms
cover the materials a recipient of Spacebar needs to rebuild the LGPL libraries
it ships, modify them, and relink the app against the result. They are not a
license to Spacebar: the application, its source and its repository stay
proprietary and private.

Spacebar's media player is built from mpv, FFmpeg, libplacebo, FriBidi, libass,
HarfBuzz and FreeType. mpv, FFmpeg, libplacebo and FriBidi are distributed under
the GNU Lesser General Public License version 3, selected under each library's
"version 2.1 or later" grant; see `distribution-selection.json`. The other
libraries keep their own permissive licenses. Every upstream notice and license
text travels with the source.

## 1. Build recipes and records: MIT

The following files are licensed under the MIT license below. They are the
recipes that compile, assemble and stage the library closure, and the records
that pin what was built.

Under `Scripts/LibMPV/`: `build-stack.sh`, `environment.sh`, `build-nasm.sh`,
`assemble-universal.py`, `runtime.py`, `attachment_patches.py`,
`privacy_patches.py`, `audio_patches.py`, `source-kit.py`,
`source_delivery_notices.py`, `relink-kit.py`.

Under `Legal/LibMPV/`: `library-terms.md`, `library-only-delivery.md`,
`lgplv3-route.md`, `distribution-selection.json`,
`notices/distribution-selection.txt`, `source-delivery-notices.json`,
`privacy-modification.md`, `audio-output-modification.md`,
`patch-change-dates.json`, `source-inventory.json`, `runtime.json`,
`build-tools.json`, `patch-provenance.json`, `attachment-patch-provenance.json`,
`privacy-patch-provenance.json`, `audio-patch-provenance.json`,
`effective-meson-options.json`, `universal-build-provenance.json`,
`library-generated-inputs.json`.

Upstream code or license text quoted in any of these keeps its upstream terms.

## 2. Changes to the libraries: LGPL-2.1-or-later

Spacebar's changes to the libraries are the five patches under
`Legal/LibMPV/patches/`: `mpv-0.40-no-swift-clipboard.patch`,
`ffmpeg-n7.1.1-attachment-limits.patch`, `mpv-0.40-fatal-lavf-budget.patch`,
`mpv-0.40-filesystem-network-probe.patch` and
`mpv-0.40-coreaudio-channel-map.patch`. Each is licensed under the GNU Lesser
General Public License, version 2.1 or (at your option) any later version, the
same terms as the files it changes. The surrounding upstream code keeps its own
license and notices.

## 3. Compiled application code: permission to relink

Spacebar's own compiled objects, Swift modules and link inputs are supplied in
the relink kit so the app can be recombined with a modified version of the LGPL
libraries, as section 4(d)(0) of the LGPL version 3 provides. You may use and
copy those compiled files to relink Spacebar with modified versions of the
libraries, to run the result, and to reverse engineer the app as far as needed
to debug your modifications to the libraries. You may give the relinked app to
others only together with these terms and the libraries' own.

No other right to the compiled files is granted. They are not source, and this
is not a license to Spacebar's source, name, icon or Store listing.

## 4. Where the materials are

For each released build, the library source kit and the relink kit are offered
at no charge from `https://spacebar.tools/open-source/`, named by the version
and build number they belong to, with their SHA-256 checksums. Each stays
available for as long as that build is offered.

The app's own notices window (Help, then Third-Party Notices) carries the
library notices and both GNU license texts, and points here.

## 5. Not covered

`App/`, `Core/`, `UI/`, `Playback/`, `Preview/`, `PreviewData/`, `PreviewTrack/`,
`Tools/`, `Tests/`, `Vendor/`, `Resources/`, `project.yml`, the repository and
its history, signing keys and entitlements. No signing identity is offered: a
relinked build is signed by whoever builds it. Installation Information under
section 4(e) is not owed, because Spacebar is not conveyed in or with a device.
