Open source in Spacebar

Spacebar plays video and some audio with mpv, FFmpeg, libplacebo, and FriBidi, which are distributed with it under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3. That license gives you the right to change those libraries and use your version in Spacebar. This page has what you need to do that.

Spacebar itself is not open source. Every library it ships, with its license, is listed in the full notices, also in the app under Help → Third-Party Notices.

What is offered

Both are free of charge. The kits for a build stay here for as long as that build is offered. Find your build in Spacebar under Spacebar → About Spacebar.

Terms

The libraries keep their own licenses, which travel with the source. Spacebar's build scripts are under the MIT license, and its changes to the libraries are under the LGPL, version 2.1 or later. The compiled files in the relink kit may be used to relink Spacebar with modified libraries, to run the result, and to reverse engineer Spacebar as far as debugging those modifications needs. Read the full terms.

What a relinked copy can do

A copy you relink is signed by you, not by the publisher, so the App Store does not recognize it. The free previews (archives and GPS tracks) work; the trial and the purchase cannot be started or restored in it. The relink kit's README explains the steps and what you need from Apple's developer tools.
